Sumy State University was one of the first higher educational institutions that realized the necessity of purposeful training of highly qualified specialists concerning the demands of skilled necessities of the region.

The possibility of ensuring of uninterrupted education, deepening of general-educational and professional training gives an educational-scientific-production complex created on the Decree of Ministry of education in 1993. Today this complex includes 25 educational institutions. These are schools of general education of the regional centre and regional areas: Sumy grammar schools №1, Sumy Classis grammar school, ETC №2, 6, 7, 10, 17, 21,27 of Sumy, ETC №2 of Shostka, grammar-school and Lyceum of Konotop, SGE №2 of Glukhov, grammar-school №5 of Pryluky, N.Sivers’k grammar-school №1 of Chernygivs’k region, SGE №2 u.t.c. Svesa of the Yampil’s’k region, SGE №1 of Krolevets, SGE №1 of Bilopillya, ETC of village Grun’ of Okhtyrs’k region.

In 2001 there were made agreements with vocational school №40 village Synivka of L.Dolyns’k region, secondary schools of Trostyanets, Okhtyrka, Putyvl’, with the local centre of scientific-technical youth, Sumy SGE №18.

The work with educational institutions, which are included into the educational complex educational complex of the university, is carried out according to the integrated educational plans, which gives a possibility for ensuring continuity in education and lies in deepening of general education and professional training, integrity and consecution of education according to both the contents and level. Professor-teaching staff of the university is involved into the educational process of all the institutions. Pupils of the schools of the regional center come to the university once a week, where university teachers have lessons with them. As for the schools, which are situated not at the regional center, teachers go there 3 - 4 times a year for some days with the purpose of carrying out of studies and control measures. On the whole the extent of educational work in complex comprises about 20 thousand hours annually, it corresponds to 25 staff units.

Carrying out of entrance examinations and enrolment of educational institutions entrants of the region to the membership of the university students is realized in 3 stages: according to the rating results, entrance-final examinations (since 2001 - according to the results of the governmental final certification) and general stream. Rating control works, entrance-final examinations (since 2001 - governmental final certification) – are pre-term measures, which favor to the contest selection of graduates to a specific specialty in correspondence to their level of preparation. They are economically efficient and raise up the level of co-operation between a higher educational institution and local operating controls of education.

Rating control works – is an original form of entrance examinations. Rating control works are carried out by the university at a grammar-school №1, Sumy Classic grammar-school, GETC №10. For some years a number of graduates have become enrolled without examinations by the decree of the university entrance examination board according to the results of indices in education during the last 2 years (there is a table of education of summary rating for each specialty), the rest – take final examinations as entrance ones to the university. In this work the university is governed by the Statute about rating control works, agreed with the Department of Education and Science of the Sumy Regional State Administration.

The SSU has stored experience on carrying out of entrance examinations, combined with a graduate in average educational institutions, which belong to the structure of educational-scientific-production complex of the university (since 2001 - governmental final certification).

Entrance-final examinations were carried out according to the Statute about combination of final examinations in average educational institutions with entrance ones to the first course of the SSU, agreed with the Ministry of Education of Ukraine and on term, determined by the Ministry of Education.

In 2001 the university was governed by the Statute about governmental final certification of pupils in the system of general secondary education, approved by the Decree of Ministry of education and science of Ukraine and Statute about carrying out of governmental final certification at the Sumy State University, approved by the Department of Education and Science of the Sumy Regional State Administration and Sumy State University.

About one third of students of the first course are graduates of educational institutions of the complex. Thus, in 2001 there were 254 persons (in 2000 - 241 persons) enrolled for the 1 course of the complex.

Along with the traditional forms of work (carrying out of studies on special courses at educational institutions of the city, lecture and practical classes at schools of the region), the university also proceeds with the search of work with the village youth.

There is an interesting cooperation between the university and educational-production industrial complex of the village Grun’ of the Okhtyrka region, where once a week pupils of nearby villages come to the complex for additional activities.

A similar scheme of the profile preparation exists also at the village Synivka of the Lypovo-Dolyns’k region, there was created a multi-profile Lyceum at the vocational school-40 basis.

Internal-extra-mural physical-mathematical school is also meant for a village pupil, it gives a possibility to deepen your knowledge, get consultations and orient yourself in the choice of specialty.

The school foresees two-year term of education, internal-extra-mural rounds. In 2001 4 persons from among the number of 10 – listeners of the school, admitted for taking entrance examinations became enrolled.

In 2001 university administration took a decision about perfection of career-guidance work. There was organized testing among graduates of Sumy schools in September-November. There were 1160 persons tested, it makes up 45% from the amount of graduates of schools in Sumy who received positive results: 920 persons. All the tested were sent letters with testing results and invitations for education at the contract basis. Today 25 persons according to the results of this work made agreements for education. In 2001 the university organized carrying out of the Olympiad "University entrant of 2002". There were sent tasks of the extra-mural selection round of the Olympiad to all the regions and city departments of education. Internal rounds are planned for realization in April of 2002. Internal round is one of the forms of entrance examinations.

With the purpose of revelation and attraction of talented youth for education at the university and give them a possibility to try their strength the university together with the editorial staff of the newspaper "Dancore" is carrying out an Olympiad for university entrants “A Step in Your Tomorrow”. It has been carried out for four years (since 1999). The Olympiad is carried out in two rounds: extra-mural and internal. In 2001 about 57 persons altogether took part in the Olympiad, 9 persons were enrolled pre-term according to the results of Olympiad.

With the purpose of rendering help to entrants in their preparation for entrance exams to the university, there work self-supporting access courses with different duration of education: 8-month extra-mural – since December, 1; 6 – month – since October, 1; 3-month – since February; one-month daily – since June, 20.

Making analysis of the results of work of integration structures of specialists purposeful training at the university, one should make the following conclusions:

• Work of the university teachers at average educational institutions favors not only rise of the knowledge level of pupils, but also their deepening. Their study is steady; the quality of education is rising.
• Work of the university teachers also favors raise of qualification of teachers, carrying out of seminars on actual problems of teaching of separate subjects, orientation to separate central questions, etc.
• Pupils get professional orientation in proper time and get through the professional selection.

Confirmation of the expediency of combined work of the university with educational institutions is the result of All-Ukrainian students Olympiad of 2001. The majority of graduates of the schools, who has received profound preparation since the school-desk time, are among its winners.
