The chair manager a doctor of the medical sciences, professor Chemich M.D., manager of microbiology course - a doctor of the medical sciences, professor Kaplin M.M.

The department of the infectious diseases with course of epidemiology was created in August 1996. The Organiser of the department is doctor of the medical sciences, professor Chemich M.D. Since June 2004 course of microbiology, virology and immunology is joined to department.

Doctor of the medical sciences, professor Z.I. Krasovickiy (27.11.1923-22.08.2008 years) was a head doctor of the regional infectious hospital, also he leaded the chair of infectious diseases with course of epidemiology since November 1996 till May 2003. He was one of initiators of opening of the Sumy Medical Faculty. Student remember Z.I. Krasovickiy as a wonderful lector, doctor with a capital D, that inculcated them love to profession, humaneness, sensuality, charity, attention to patients. Z.I. Krasovickiy trained a real pleiad of infectiologists, around 150 doctors, that were studied his school, work in Ukraine and abroad.

SCHOLASTIC WORK OF DEPARTMENT

Before degree work education - students of 2, 3, 5 and 6 courses get theoretic and practical knowledges at this department. Students study the following disciplines: “Microbiology”, “Virology”, “Immunology”, “Infectious disease”, “Epidemiology”, “Infectious tropic diseases”.

Elective course “Infectious tropic diseases” can supply students by necessary information for deepening and systematization of knowledge of new actual questions of infectious pathology, that was not mentioned enough in the basic course of this subject.

Advanced studies – gives an opportunity to understand the modern therapy and diagnostics methods, to improve practical skills that are necessary for doctor – specialist, to take an active part in the scientific department activity. This study can have any specialist that has diploma of the highest medical education (budget and contract forms of study). Realization of all the study programs is performed by functional standards of the State education, approved by MSH and MSE of Ukraine.

Advanced studies is carrying by the following forms:

• Internship – speciality “Infectious diseases”, term of study is 1,5 years, graduation of magistracy and internship at the same time is possible;
• Magistracy – speciality “Infectious diseases”, term of study is 1,5 years, graduation of magistracy and internship at the same time is possible;
• Postgraduate course (full-time and postal tuition) – speciality “Infectious diseases”, “Microbiology”, term of study is 3-4 years;
• Clinical residency – speciality “Infectious diseases”, term of study is 2 years (for foreign students prolongation of study term by the additional program is possible, contract form of study);

Besides, doctors – interns of such specialities as “General practice – family medicine”, “Surgery”, “Pediatrics”, “Obstetrics and gynecology”, “Radiology”, “Internal diseases” and “Pathologic anatomy” are studied at this department.

Subject improvement of doctors is carrying in 2 ways during 156 hours:

• Intrahospital infections. Viral hepatitis. HIV – infection, AIDS” for the doctors of all specialities.
• “Ambulatory – clinical help to infectious patients” for the doctors of such specialities as “Infectious diseases”, “Children’s infectious diseases”, for doctors – alternate of these specialities.

The Staff of the department has prepared and published 13 scholastic allowances, 1 reference book, 8 collections, and more than 40 methodical recommendations. The row of the publishing was particularly actual and weighty. • “Electronic scholastic allowance on infectious diseases” was created (Chemich M.D., Butko V.A.).
• The videos “Practical skills in clinic of infectious diseases” ( Chemich M.D., Kobyleckiy S.N., Vasiko N.A., Sasovskaya V.) and “Antiepidemic actions in centre of the cholera” (Chemich M.D., Kulik A.V.) were created.
• Computer bank of the test tasks for checking the knowledge of students on Epidemiology – 1500 questions (Chemich M.D., Il’yina N.I.), on Infectious diseases (5th course) - 2000 questions (Chemich M.D., Il’yina N.I.), on Infectious diseases (6th- course) - 2000 questions (Chemich M.D., Il’yina N.I.) and on Microbiology (2nd-3rd- courses) - 1000 questions, for doctors and interns more than 3000 questions (Chemich M.D., Il’yina N.I.) were created.

Sphere of scientific department interests

Scientifically-searching work “The complex advanced study of “Application of new methods of diagnostics, not medicinal and chemical therapy methods of treatment of widespread infections in the conditions of the North-eastern region of Ukraine” is in progress.

The results of the Scientific Studies of the department staff were given on international congresses of infectious diseases in S.-Petersburg, Moscow, Minsk, and Vitebsk, New York and Israel.

The scientific achievements of the department staff are performed in the form of 6 patents and author’s certificate on invention (Chemich M.D., Kaplin M.M., Il’yina N.I., and Zahlebaeva V.V.), 20 proposals for improving production methods (Chemich M.D., Kaplin M.M., Il’yina N.I.).

Main scientific achievements of the department.

The etiologic structure of acute enteric infectious diseases at the Sumy region is determined. The features of acute shigellosis course in case of epidemic and sporadic forms of morbidity are defined. The inexpediency of antibiotics usage at acute shigellosis is proved. High efficiency of usage of modern enterosorbates and probiotics in treatment of acute enteric infections is also proved. The features of clinical course of viral hepatitis in the contemporary conditions are determined.

Scientific- research work of department

The art of treatment is not only skill, it is also creative work. Scientific – research work plays a great role at the development of harmonious personality.

Various forms of scientific – research work are wildly used in the studying process. During the last years its following forms are used and developing:

• Students and young scientists conferences;
• Creating of videos with department video collection development;
• Creating of slide presentations;
• Creating of modern testing programs;
• Solving of clinic and situational tasks;
• Patients’ curation;
• Clinical and instrumental examination of patients with filling the medical card of hospital patient;
• Duty in hospital;
• Experimental research;
• Publication of articles and thesis of reports.

The results of scientific - research works are reports at conferences, publications in magazines, conferences’ materials etc.

Nowadays 15 students and 10 doctors – interns work at the student scientific association of the infectious diseases department.

At 2008-2009 studying years schedule is the following:

   • “Contemporary ways of antibacterial therapy of erysipelas” (clinics of infectious diseases, 20 rokiv Peremogy str., 15. - 20.05.09 year).

Medical-consulting activity

The department of infectious diseases is located in the Sumy regional infectious hospital. Medical-consulting work is conducted in two branches of hospital, meaned on hospitalization for 100 sick and in hepatology centre. The Main Doctor of the medical institution is a candidate of the medical sciences, assistant professor Snitsar A.O. The Clinical base is equipped by modern equipment for endoscope diagnostics, device U.S., with thermograph.

The Laboratory studies are conducted by the instrumentality of biochemical analyzer “Cobas Emira” and clinical analyzer “Cobas Micros” and immunological and other modern studies have place.

Here in Clinic the branch hyperbaric oxygenation are equipped with a stationary pressure chamber “OKA-MT” functions. New methods of the treatment for the infectious diseases are used with the hyperbaric oxygenation, enterosorbtion, magnetotherapy and immunomodular facilities using.

It is successfully introduced designed by our group of this clinic the regional program “Antihepatit”. In 2002 on the base of clinic of the infectious diseases regional centre of hepatology was opened. This has vastly perfected medical-consulting and diagnostic functioning in the region.

Reorientation of the work is organized on offer of the department on rendering emergency and urgent help in the region and in city Sumy on infectious pathology. In medical practice new methods of the treatment, diagnostics are introduced.

Sumy regional scientifically-medical association of infectionists

Chairman Society – department manager of the infectious diseases, assistant professor Chemich M.D.

Functioning of the society is actuated since 1996. First plenum of Association of Ukraine infectionists and scientifically-practical conference with participation of the representatives of the areas of the whole Ukraine has been already organized.

On traditions annually (biannual) regional scientifically-practical conferences with participation of doctors-infectionists, physicians, paediatrician, neurologist about modern problem of infectology are conducted. The physician received gratis collections of conference, allowances: “Infectious diseases: classification and schemes of diagnostics”, “Emergency of infectious diseases”; the methodical recommendations: “Acute Respiratory Viral Infections”. Clinic, diagnostics and treatment”, “Meningoencephalitis”, “TORCH-infection: clinic, diagnosis, treatment”; Concept of lecture “Viral hepatitis’s. Toxoplasmosis”, “Malaria: etiology, epidemiology, clinic, diagnosis, treatment, and prophylactic”.

The Association of infectionists of Ukraine repeatedly awarded Chemich M.D. for active work, he was also awarded by MOZ of Ukraine in 2003 year.
