The Department of "Applied Sciences of Materials And Technology Of Construction Materials"

The department of "Applied sciences of materials and technology of construction materials" of the Sumy State University is a graduate department. The following subjects are taught at the department:

• "Science of materials",
• "Technology of construction materials" (for the students of Engineering department),
• "System of technologies" (for the students of the Humanities department).

The department trains specialists in the field of "Applied Sciences of Materials" by teaching 27 majors in the following directions:

1. Science of materials in metallurgy.
   The specialists may work at foundries and metallurgical manufactories and departments as well as at express-laboratories.
2. Machine parts reconditioning and materials reuse.
   The specialists can apply their skills working at reconditioning enterprises, welding shops, carrying out the following operations: welding, overlaying, spraying and soldering of machine parts and constructions as well as parts reconditioning and their mechanical processing.
3. Science of materials in manufacturing with specification of science of metals; metals and alloys heat treatment.
   The specialists may work at galvanic, thermic, forge and stamping shops, at customs quality control departments, at plant laboratories and Home Office establishments; at drawing offices, technology and technical offices, etc.

The department consists of highly-qualiyfied academics – professionals, including 71 % with academic degrees having deep experience in manufacturing and academic work. A professor heads the department. The department has the educational area of 840 square meters, including 2 lecture classrooms and 9 specialised laboratories.

Scientific research is made in the following direction "Machine parts infallibility and service increasing".

Design projects of the academics of the department are applied at 82 enterprises in Ukraine and CIS.
