Medical Faculty of the Sumy State University
The medical faculty of the Sumy State University was founded in 1992.
Several departments have grown into a studying-scientific complex with its traditions. It includes 6 buildings. About 80% of lecturers have scientific degrees. 18 Doctors of Medical Sciences and Professors work at 21 departments, including 65 Candidates (more than 30 Assistant Professors). Foreign methods are used in studying. There are departments of clinical type in 25 region medicine centres.
There are 9 computer classes at the departments. 2 laboratories provide various complicated investigations.
The first graduates of 1998, who got the diploma of a doctor, now work not only in Ukraine but abroad as well. All graduates, including contact students are provided with job places after studying.
The number of students is about 1000, including 100 foreign students from the Middle East and Africa. The students are also provided with 2 hostels (235 rooms each), a library, a canteen, a gymnasium, a cafe, a stadium, and a club. The students may also use the university library, Internet, a swimming-pool, a sport complex.
The students often take part in Ukrainian student Olympiads where they take the first praises. Among the students there are grant-aid students of Soros fund and the National academy of science of Ukraine.
Post-graduate and clinical studies are also available.The students may get the second higher education at the SSU (economics, management, law, translation, and computer sciences).
There are also departments of extreme and military medicine. Some new specialities will appear in future.
The studying is financed by the state but there are also contract students, which pay tuition-fees. The state students take the following entering examinations: biology and chemistry (in writing), the Ukrainian language (dictation).
The tuition-fee is 3200 grivnas per year (it can be changed every year). The contract students take computer tests in biology and chemistry. If the tests are successful the contract is concluded. Excellent marks of a student may give him a possibility to be financed by the state.
The following documents are required for entering medical faculty:
- application;
- medical certificate (form 086-U, 063-U);
- school-leaving certificate;
- passport;
- military certificate;
- 8 photographs 3 õ 4.
