The department of the infections diseases with course of epidemiology is created in August 1996. Since June 2004 course of microbiology, virology and immunology is joined to department.
The Organiser of the department - a doctor of the medical sciences, professor Chemich M.D.. Since November 1996 till May 2003 the head of department was doctor of the medical sciences, professor Z.I. Krasovickiy.

Since 2003, internship has been incorporated in the profession “Infectious disease”. Besides, physician-interns of the profession “General practice are learning in the departments “family medicine”, “Surgery”, “Pediatrics”, “Obstetrics and gynaecology” and “Radiology” - a diagnostic.

Sphere of scientific department interests acute
The Main trends of the scientific studies of the department of the infectious diseases are sharp intestine infectious diseases and viral hepatitis. Scientifically-searching work is the complex advanced study of “Application of new methods of diagnostics is conducted, not medicinal and chemical therapy methods of treatment of widespread infections in the conditions of the North-eastern region of Ukraine”. The scientific directions of the course to microbiology – microbiology of candidosis infections.
The Results from the Scientific Studies Employee Department on Infectious Disease were given on international congresses, in S.-Petersburg, Moscow, Minsk, and Vitebsk, New York and Israel.
The Scientific Achievements Employee Department is executed in the form of 6 patents and on author’s certificate on invention (Chemich M.D., Kaplin M.M., Iliina N.I., and Zahlebaeva V.V.), 20 proposals for improving production methods (Chemich M.D., Kaplin M.M., Iliina N.I.).
Main scientific achievements
Ethiological structure of the acute intestine infectious diseases was studied in Sumy region. We revealed peculiarity of the current acute shegell disease under epidemic and sporadic forms under acute shegell disease. Shown pointlessness of the use of antibiotics at sharp shegell disease. High efficiency of using modern enterosorbents and probiotics in treatment of acute intestine infectious diseases was proved. The revealed particularities of the clinic and current viral hepatitis in modern condition.
Medical-consulting activity
The department of infectious diseases is located in the Sumy regional infectious hospital. Medical-consulting work is conducted in two branches of hospital, meaned on hospitalization for 100 sick and in hepatology centre. The Main Doctor of the medical institution is a candidate of the medical sciences, assistant professor Snitsar A.O. The Clinical base is equipped by modern equipment for endoscope diagnostics, device U.S., with thermograph.
The Laboratory studies are conducted by means of biochemical analyzer “Cobas Emira” and clinical analyzer “Cobas Micros” and are used for immunological and other modern studies.
Here in Clinic the branch hyperbaric oxygenation are equipped with a stationary pressure chamber “OKA-MT” functions. New methods of the treatment for the infectious diseases are used with the hyperbaric oxyigination, enterocorbtion, magnetotherapy and immunomodular facilities using.
It is successfully introduced designed by our group of this clinic the regional program “Antihepatit”. In 2002 on the base of clinic of the infectious diseases regional centre of hepatology was opened. This has vastly perfected medical-consulting and diagnostic functioning in the region.
Reorientation of the work is organized on offer of the department on rendering emergency and urgent help in the region and in city Sumy on infectious pathology. In medical practice persons introduce new methods of the treatment, diagnostics.
Sumy regional scientifically-medical society infectionists

Functioning of the society is actuated since 1996. First plenum of Association of Ukraine infectionists and scientifically-practical conference with participation of the representatives of the areas of the whole Ukraine has been already organized.
On traditions annually (biannual) are conducted regional scientifically-practical conferences with participation of doctors-infectionists, physicians, paediatrician, neurologist on modern problem of infectology. The Physician were gratis issued collections conference, allowances: “_infectious diseases: classification and schemes of diagnostics”, “Emergency of infectious diseases”; the methodical recommendations: “Acute Respiratory Viral Infection”. Clinic, diagnostics and treatment”, “Meningoencephalitis”, “TORCH-infection: clinic, diagnosis, treatment”; Concept of lecture “Viral hepatitis’s. Toxoplasmosis”, “Malaria: ethiology, epidemiology, clinic, diagnoses, treatment, and prophylactic”.
The Association of infectionists of Ukraine’s for active work repeatedly awarded Chemich M.D. Chemich M.D. in 2003 also awarded MOZ Ukraine.
