Energy Conservation at SSU
Now we can often hear “Can you save?” For many of us it means to say “no” to expensive things, traveling, new devices, fashion and qualitative products. But this is not saving or economy.
Days of April, 14-20 are announced to be the days of economy and saving at SSU. SSU administration had a conference on this question. The numbers in hryvnas concerning the quantity of SSU energy usage per year were announced. The visitors also listened to the report of M.I.Sotnyk, the associate professor of the chair of applied fluid mechanics that is a specialist in his field. It was stressed that most of money we spent in vain because of our carelessness, negligence and the absence of wishes to be a real master of the house!
Mykola Ivanovych named the means of reducing the expenses: technical (those that demand fundamental financing) and organizational (attention and wish). And often even organizational events are supposed to be more effective.
Do you know how much you parents pay for public service and how much it takes from the family budget?
The public opinion poll of 51 students of 3d and 4th years of studying (Energy Management) showed that 47% don’t even know the answer! But 96% suppose that some energy conservation (proper light, warmed windows etc) can reduce the payment for the services! And 63% think that the economy can be of more than 15%!
Europe studies to save since salad days: special subjects, poster with slogans for energy conservation. Why is it different in Ukraine? Why our poor people that always lack money can’t use the resources rationally? According to the statistics 40% of the energy used is spent for the electric devices, 30% - light, 12% - cooking. The investigations showed that 15-20% of the energy is used because of carelessness.
There is an interesting fact that SSU that educates students of energy management department has great losses of power and energy. Even at the hostels water is running, light is on while students are somewhere else. “This the peculiarity of Ukrainian people – not mine, so, I’m indifferent!” – A.M.Polozhy, the Vice-Rector, says. So, what about the students that are SSU guests al least for 5 years, if we can easily save ours.
In 2007 SSU spent about 4 million hryvnas for public service; hostels took 45% of electricity, 30% of warmness and 75% of water. If we reduce these numbers at least at 10% it will make about 400,000 hryvnas and that means 100 new computers, 10 new audiences, 80,000 manuals…
To save or not to save is everyone’s own business! But why save for the lack of health if we can do it saving electricity!
