Sumy State University delegates 12 high-qualified athletes to take part in the 29th Summer Universiade 2017. In the Universiade that will last in the PRC in 19th - 30th  August, they will represent Ukrainian team in volleyball, judo, athletics and archery.

As the Head of the Committee on Physical Education and Sport at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Secretary General of the Sports Student Union of Ukraine Vadym Stetsenko, who represented the sports teams of Ukraine’s national team, mentioned the National University of Physical Education and Sports of Ukraine (25 people) has the largest representation of sportsmen students the industry-specific schools (3 universities of physical education and sport), and Sumy State University occupies the 1st place among the national, classical, technical and pedagogical universities (65 universities).

Moreover, SSU has already had previous triumphant experience in participating the worldwide universiades, such as 2013 Summer Universiade – 3 gold medals; 2015 Summer Universiade – 5 awards (2 silver, 3 bronze).

On August 3, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine hosted a meeting of the Organizing Committee headed by the Deputy Minister of Ukraine Roman Hreba. The point of the discussion was the preparation and participation of the national student teams of Ukraine in the 29th World Summer Universiade that will be held in 19th - 30th  August this year. At the meeting of the Organizing Committee, the Head of the Sports Students Union of Ukraine (SSUU), Rector of the National University of Physical Education and Sports of Ukraine Yevhen Imas made a report for members of the Organizing Committee, as well as for invited rectors of the leading Ukrainian universities about the work that was done by the sports union that during the preparation for the Universiade, provides the participation of sportsmen students in the Universiade kind of sports. He mentioned that 68 universities of Ukraine will be represented in 14 kinds of sports in these competitions. At the same time, the Head of the SSUU pointed up the necessity of sports development according to the priorities of the relevant conditions in the HEIs of all regions of Ukraine.
